Existing concrete can have a stamped layer added over top of it. Often, older concrete slabs will become worn out and chipped or cracked but remain structurally sound. These cracks and chips can be repaired and then a layer of stamped concrete can be added on top to give a fresh new look.
The products used for this type of work are spread over the old concrete at a thickness of about ¾ inch and then stamped with a wide array of pattern options. An integral colour can be mixed into the product creating a custom colour that matches the building and surrounding landscape. Secondary accent colours can be added using release powder or concrete stain to create a more realistic and beautiful look.
The Process for Resurfacing With Stamped Concrete Layer:
- Chip away broken or loose concrete.
- Grind off any old resurfacing layers using concrete grinders until bare concrete is exposed.
- Repair broken concrete to restore originally designed shape, such as chipped corners.
- Fill cracks using crack repair material.
- Wait for concrete repair material to fully cure.
- Prepare concrete for resurfacing by saturating concrete with water.
- Apply concrete adhesive to existing concrete surface to ensure proper adhesion of stamped resurfacing layer.
- Mix up resurfacing material while adding in any integral colouring.
- Apply resurfacing material evenly over surface at ¾” thickness.
- Wait for material to harden slightly and then stamp with chosen pattern.
- While stamping, powder release can be used to add a secondary accent colour. Or the secondary accent colour can be added after the resurfacing material has hardened using concrete staining products.
